this? >> soledad, obviously president obama is condemning this, calling it highly provocative. he issued a statement and said north korea's nuclear weapons and bollistic missile programs constitute a threat to u.s. national security and to international peace and security. and he continued the u.s. remains vigilant in the face of north korean provocations and steadfast in our defense commitments to allies in the region. obviously ther obvious obviously, there is grave concern. the north koreans are saying they have a different type of weapon, more sophisticated, more powerful. what is happening right now is that the u.s. and international organizations are monitoring what they -- what they can from this test. they are sending the united states, sending planes aloft and what they do, they have sensors on them, and they try to sniff the air in a way and figure out exactly what kind of explosion that was. because there are a couple of different types of explosions, and depending on that, we could find out how much they can do of testing in the future and perhaps create a bomb. soleda

this is not the consolatory obama that came in january 2011 with that need that he knew he was chasing. that he was going to have to work together with the republicans. a somewhat toned down barack obama from the 2012 state of the union trying to talk to the voters, set the tone for the campaign. he wanted to deliver this. hey, guys, we have to do some of these votes. i wonder, they have a lot of what i would call very well pull tests. the issue that they hit on on education and the economy in particular, things like universal prepaid, raising the minimum wage, these are tangible items that average, middle-class families listening to this , speech. i have a feeling that could resonate very well. they accomplish what they wanted to do, which is talk about the economy in simpler terms over the head of washington. >> chuck todd, thank you for joining us. >> all right. >> joining us from san antonio, texas, the mayor of san antonio. mayor castro, thank you for joining us. >> let me ask you about the word comprehensive. we have all been if through watching the attempt by the government to reform immigration

by president obama is a badge of honor. here is some of the tea party types we found today, just today, michael, who are backing the cuts. ohio congressman jim jordan said back in october, quote, i would say the only thing that's worse than cutting national defense is not having any scheduled cuts in place at all. louisiana congressman steve scalise told dow jones business news, quote, the con shen sus is we want the sequester numbers to come in and finally dereduced spending in washington. south carolina congressman mike mull vain yea said we want to keep the sequester in place and take the cuts we can get. georgia congressman paul br oun, i want to see it go into place and rand paul in his tea party response to the state of the union said not only should the sequester stand, many pundits say the sequester really needs to be at least $4 trillion to avoid another downgrade on america's credit rating. there you have a lot of people on the record, michael, on the republican side saying they want the sequester. i'm curious why you contend this is not a partisan issue. >> because it isn't, chris. c
